Marcus Buckingham on Leadership 360

Marcus Buckingham is of the opinion that respondents to 360 degree feedback surveys are not in a position to rate their leader on the competencies or behaviors covered in a typical 360. Instead, he offers us an alternative: ask questions as to how the respondent feels about working with the leader. Just don’t ask them to rate the leader on the latters behaviors. So he suggests a question such as “Marcus sets a clear vision for my team” would be better phrased as “I know what the vision of my team is”. Well, I’m still digesting this, not sure if this turns all 360s on their head. I’ll let you be the judge, here’s the article on HBR: The Fatal Flaw with 360 Surveys
